Organizational Context
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, with a network of 192-member National Societies. The overall aim of the IFRC is “to inspire, encourage, facilitate, and promote at all times all forms of humanitarian activities by National Societies with a view to preventing and alleviating human suffering and thereby contributing to the maintenance and promotion of human dignity and peace in the world.” The IFRC works to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people before, during and after disasters, health emergencies and other crises.
The IFRC is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement (Movement), together with its member National Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The work of the IFRC is guided by the following fundamental principles: humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality.
The IFRC is led by its Secretary General, and has its Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The Headquarters are organized into three main Divisions: (i) National Society Development and Operations Coordination; (ii) Global Relations, Humanitarian Diplomacy and Digitalization; and (iii) Management Policy, Strategy and Corporate Services.
The IFRC Middle East and North Africa (MENA) regional office based in Beirut, Lebanon supports 17 national societies in the region. The MENA Health, Disasters, Climate, and Crises (HDCC) unit within the MENA regional office works with one regional plan as well as provides technical support & quality assurance to country cluster support teams and country offices.
Job Purpose
Contribute, support, and learn from the HDCC regional work in the MENA region.
And to provide specific programmatic support on the ongoing programs with the Algerian Red Crescent
Job Duties and Responsibilities
The completion of the major tasks requires proficiency in French
The intern will carry out the following specific tasks:
- Support technical planning, preparations, implementation and reporting of programmes, workshops and events.
- Working with the team on programme-related reporting & monitoring tasks including minutes taking during meetings/teleconferences.
- Liaise with other units and teams in the regional office on specific tasks ensuring effective working relationships with other personnel, including all other RC/RC Movement staff as necessary.
- Support the day-to-day tasks including travel support and finance-related aspects.
- Revise and update the relevant programme trackers.
- Support the processing of translation and proofreading tasks of technical materials.
- Develop and maintain an inventory of technical capacity-building support.
- Maintain an inventory of the assets and equipment related to the programme.
- Support in preparing specific thematic research/discussion papers.
- Perform any other work-related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned by the line manager
Education
University Degree in one of the following: Social Science, business administration, Humanitarian Affairs, or other relevant fields (Required)
Knowledge, Skills and Languages
Understanding of the humanitarian context (Required)
Ability to work in a fast-paced, diverse cultural context (Required)
Strong report-writing skills (Required)
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) (Required)
Languages
Fluently spoken and written Arabic & English& French (Required)
