ROLE PURPOSE:

The Education Assistant will be responsible for implementing the non-formal Education programme under the supervision of the Education Officer and with the support of the Education Coordinator. He/She will ensure that programme implementation is timely and of a high technical quality, monitoring processes are in place, timely reporting occurs, the programme is continually assessed, and solutions quickly put in place should there be a change of context.

The post holder is expected to dedicate 90% of work time in the field.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3:  the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Education Officer

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Programme Implementation / Management

Under the supervision of the Education Officer, the Education Assistant will facilitate the implementation of the Education programme; Community Based Early Childhood Education, Basic Literacy and Numeracy, and Retention support.

Provide awareness sessions and advise communities and caregivers on existing education activities and other social services, and refer them as relevant.

Contribute to field assessments and data collection as required.

Support in establishing and implementing operational work plans, and setting targets and activity plans per communities, learning centers, and programme sites.

Liaise on a daily basis with stakeholders, families, and Save the Children supervisors and colleagues to guarantee a smooth operation of the programmes.

Work directly in the field with children, educators, community members, parents, and other stakeholders in programme locations.

Plan and facilitate the distribution of learning materials.

Actively participate in capacity building initiatives when relevant, and assist in the organisation, implementation of trainings and workshops.

Willing to be trained and become a TOT member for facilitating training on relevant topics.

Lead on community outreach activities and effectively conduct focus group discussions and assessments.

Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child centred approach and to act in the best interests of the child.

Programme Design / Development

Monitor activities’ implementation in the learning centres.

Apply the monitoring tools according to SCI Education program guidelines and approaches.

Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities of the Education program.

Follow up with stakeholders, parents and caregivers to ensure the continuous attendance of children in the programs.

Daily monitoring for the online classes when adapting remote learning modality.

Ensure that data is accurately collected and reported according to guidelines.

Produce timely reports on the project ongoing activities.

Share implementation challenges and suggest solutions to direct line mnager.

Regularly visit learning Centers to ensure that parents and targeted communities are appropriately supported and that qualitative and quantitative program objectives are achieved.

External Relationships / Representation

Representing SCI in external meetings and public events as required.

Participate in regular partner monitoring visits to engage and support them in their daily activities implementation, and ensuring adherence to SCI and donor regulations.

General

Ensure that SCI activities are implemented in accordance with SCI polities, SCI Education strategy and MEHE’s guidelines and frame works.

Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS :

Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education, Development / Humanitarian Studies, Social Science, or other related fields.

Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

At least two years of experience in education, preferably in an (I) NGO environment or educational setting.

Prior teaching experience is an asset

An understanding of formal and non-formal education and Education in Emergencies.

Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

Excellent computer skills.

Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context.

Familiarity with the Beqaa governorate.
