- Type of contract: Full time, 12 months Fixed-Term Contract, Renewable.

-Main Purpose:
Verbal interpretation, in person or remotely, during daily medical activities (medical round, consultations, interviews, meetings, etc.) and written translations, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, in order to ensure accurate, respectful, fluent and confidential communication between medical staff and local population.
-Accountabilities:
- Inform medical staff about important cultural nuances to consider during a meeting, medical consultation or interview with local people.
- Participate in staff trainings and meetings as an interpreter.
- Provide face to face interpreting, as well as during telephone and radio calls or other telecom devices, when necessary.
- Adapt communication to any circumstances, using appropriate language registry as well as diplomatic and courtesy manners.
- Translate MSF internal / external documents into local language(s).
- Keep record of all translated documents.
- Look after all equipment provided, i.e. dictionaries or other books that belong to MSF
- Ensure confidentiality and medical secrecy.
- MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:
- Ensure neutrality and accuracy when translating
- Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation.
- Help the clinic manager in the management of patient flow
- Help if needed to fill the electronic appointment system upon the request of clinic manager
- Upon the request of the clinic manager, HP Manager, Midwife Activity Manager or HP supervisor, translate the documents and fill the patient satisfaction survey form or any other survey forms.
- Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation
- Inform international staff about local customs, tradition, etc., that will help understand better the context and better communicate.
- Always keep respect towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions and MSF staff participating in discussions.
-Requirements:
Education
Essential secondary education, university degree desirable, medical background/ health knowledge desirable.
Experience
2 years of related working experience required. Desirable with MSF or other NGOs
Languages
Essential, bilingual in both mission language and local languages and/or dialects
High level of communication skill in English language
Knowledge:
Essential computer literacy (word, Excel)
Listening to professionals and translating verbatim patients’ responses back to the professionals, using proper medical terminology.
