ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in emergency settings. “Ending Gender-Based Violence: towards standardization and strengthening quality of services and direct response” is an initiative aiming at reducing the risks of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through women, boys and girls empowerment and improving the quality of multi-sectorial assistance for women and girls survivors or at risk of GBV among the host and Syrian refugee population.
BACKGROUND:
In order to increase vulnerable women and girls’ (from all nationalities) access to prevention and response services, ABAAD is setting up safe spaces for women and girls in various locations in Mount Lebanon, Northern, South, and Bekaa Governorates. The GBV Case Worker position is a key position in ABAAD’s Women and Girls Safe Spaces programme, ensuring the provision of appropriate case management services available to vulnerable women and girls, including survivors of gender-based violence (GBV).
JOB PURPOSE: The GBV Case Worker (GBV-CW) is responsible for ensuring that the Women & Girls Safe Space (WGSS) is a safe space for those seeking support. The GBV-CW will provide confidential case management and psychosocial support, as well as referrals to other service providers as needed. The GBV-CW will work with vulnerable women and girls, those at risk of GBV, and survivors of GBV. The GBV-CW is usually the first point of contact for those in need.
REPORTING LINES: Post holder reports to: WGSS Coordinator and Program Manager
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct support and counseling to vulnerable women and girls
Provide safe and appropriate case management and referrals to GBV survivors
Case management will include:
Assessment of needs
Developing an action plan
Implementing the plan
Appropriate following Case closure (if and when appropriate)
Monitoring & Reporting:
Prepare and submit weekly, monthly and 3-month work plans in a timely manner and incorporate manager feedback.
Support the maintenance of the ABAAD’s case management system and the GBV Information Management System.
Participate in weekly internal meetings and monthly team meetings to ensure adherence to standards of appropriate case management
Collect and manage data safely and ethically
Coordinate with and represent ABAAD at Working Group meetings
Coordination:
As requested undertake/participate in liaison, coordination, and information sharing activities with national NGOs, international organizations, donors and government
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop
Continuously coordinate with field working groups for referral pathways in target areas
Develop and oversee activities to take place in WGSS
Make recommendations to WGSS Program Management team
Coordinate with other actors providing essential services including: health, legal, psychosocial, security, shelter, both internally and externally
Advocate with other organizations to ensure that survivor receives best possible care
Build capacity of other groups – particularly community groups – to provide quality GBV prevention and response
Ensure a safe and welcoming environment for those in center
Use a survivor-centered and community-based approach
Respect guiding principles of safety, confidentiality, non-discrimination
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
Degree in social work
Knowledge of GBV prevention and response
Knowledge of case management principles
Strong case management experience based on survivor-centered approach
Experience working with refugees and other groups
Familiarity with GBV data collection system and safe and ethical guidelines
Ability to work with both adult and child survivors
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to human rights and gender equality
Flexible pro-active attitude
Ability to work well as an individual and in a team
Ability to manage an unpredictable workload in a challenging environment
Ability to work across socio-cultural and religious contexts
Belief in ABAAD’s mission and vision
Respect for ABAAD Code of Conduct and its PSEA Policy
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English. French is a plus
Must be computer literate, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
