Lebanese Transparency Association (LTA):

LTA, established in May 1999, is the National Chapter of Transparency International (TI) in Lebanon. It is the first Lebanese non-governmental organization that focuses on curbing corruption and promoting the principles of good governance.

Realizing the unacceptable levels of corruption reached in Lebanon and the need to act against it, a group of academics, lawyers, intellectuals, economists, and businesspeople joined forces to establish LTA in May 1999 in a bid to curb corruption through civil society.

The organization resorts to all appropriate means to fight corruption, improve the quality of life, and encourage civil society to take measures towards transparency and accountability.

LTA advocates for reform by focusing on systemic improvement and by building coalitions with other anti-corruption stakeholders, including the government, parliamentarians, the private sector, media institutions, the international community, and civil society organizations.

Under the Enforcement of Beneficial Ownership Project in Lebanon, LTA seeks to recruit an Investigative Journalist

Project Background:

Beneficial Ownership (BO) refers to the natural person(s) who ultimately owns or controls a customer and/or the natural person on whose behalf a transaction is being conducted. It also includes those persons who exercise ultimate effective control over a legal person or arrangement.

The Lebanese national legislation includes provisions tackling Beneficial Ownership, yet to be enforced. While the issue of Beneficial Ownership is of critical importance to sustainable economic growth and social stability, it has not reached yet the level of importance it deserves, on both State and civil society actors’ levels. Therefore, LTA’s intervention is to put forward Beneficial Ownership as a priority on both agendas: The state as a reform priority, and civil society actors as a priority advocacy ask.

To that effect, the Investigative Journalist will be responsible for developing a documentary outlining the national regime and international best practices for the Lebanese government to follow, highlight challenges, and draw the respective institutional setting, map relevant actors, film interviews, etc., LTA will work closely with the recruited Journalist to form the outline of the documentary and provide guidance on the legal aspects and persons/entities of interest.
