English Educator

Since 2013, KAFA has partnered with UNICEF in a project titled “Protecting children, adolescents and women from Gender Based Violence” aiming at enhancing the protection of vulnerable children and adolescents affected by the Syrian crisis from GBV (early marriage, sexual abuse...), through promoting their right to information by improving their access to adequate services and their awareness on how to protect themselves from GBV. The project is ongoing for the sixth consecutive year.

In 2021, KAFA will continue its partnership with UNICEF in the same project through operating an Adolescent Friendly Space (AFS) in Chtaura, safe spaces in Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas (Social Development Centres and Informal Settlements) and the Support Center (SC) in Bekaa and Badaro, developing national tools to prevent child protection risks and Gender Based Violence as well as capacity development of other GBV and non GBV organizations. 

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, KAFA adapted work practices to maintain unbroken assistance and service provision to its ongoing operations. This has meant providing remote support in scenarios where teams would traditionally deploy to the field. All activities have shifted to online sessions through different online platforms such as Whatsapp, Zoom, etc. As part of the capacity development program, English courses will be conducted with KAFA staff members aiming at improving their written and spoken English skills to enable them to communicate more effectively in English. Thus, an educator will be recruited to provide English sessions with KAFA staff members using remote modality.

Key Responsibilities:

The English educator will be responsible for the following:

• Develop a detailed working plan of the sessions that will be provided through a designated online platform (a proposal to be attached);
• Conduct a written assessment on the staff members’ English proficiency;
• Focus on assisting staff members in developing skills in the goal areas (intelligibility, vocabulary, grammar, presentation and interactive communication) so that any deficiencies in skill or practice do not interfere with communication.
• Refer to the Program Officer on matters related to logistics;
• Ensure the achievement of the sessions’ objectives;
• Update the attendance sheet on each session;
• Work with Monitoring & Evaluation officer on the required tools;
• Make sure the best practice standards of KAFA are being implemented;
• Submit a final report after the end of the sessions;
• Meet the deadlines.

Required Qualifications

At least 4 years’ experience in providing English sessions with adults.

Key Characteristics:

• Demonstrated understanding of GBV in general in particular;
• Proven experience in providing English sessions;
• Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Team work skills.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS:

While working on a KAFA project, it is required to sign KAFA’s Child Protection Policy and KAFA’s code of conduct.
