Organizational Setting
FAO is implementing a Canada funded project “Support to women cooperatives and associations in the agro-food sector of Lebanon – GCP/LEB/030/CAN” in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.
The project aims at supporting women cooperatives, associations and informal groups to be able to develop and implement a business in the agro-food sector. Women groups will be provided with an extensive training package relevant to the gender equality and women empowerment, cooperatives, business, marketing, communication, ethics and others. They will be enrolled in Cooperative Business Schools and coached by a group of trained facilitators to prepare business plans. A number of the business plans will be selected for cash grant and labor voucher support for their implementation.
In parallel, a study will be conducted to assess the agricultural sector from a gender perspective in the aim of identifying opportunities for women. The project is also supporting the General Directorate of Cooperatives in upgrading its Management Information System.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAORs, the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), direct supervision of the project manager and in collaboration with the project team, the Subject matter specialists are required to support the project by providing their technical assistance, each in his/her domain of expertise, to the facilitators and women groups allowing the women groups be able to properly implement their business
Technical Focus
Agriculture, with any of the following specializations: crop production/protection, animal production/health, Fisheries/aquaculture, forestry, food and agro-processing or any related field
Tasks and responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the FAORs, the Lead Technical Officer (LTO), direct supervision of the project manager and in collaboration with the project team, the expert is expected to successfully accomplish the following activities:
- Assist in the collection and analysis of relevant technical, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and/or studies in the one or more specific domain of activities related to the business plans developed in the project;
- Collect, report, edit, revise technical and scientific documents relevant for the specific relevant domain of expertise;
- Provide technical inputs for the relevant business plans developed by the project beneficiaries
- Develop the technical specifications of inputs, material and equipment included in the business plans and assist in the identification of potential vendors
- Participate in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems;
- Assess the technical capacities of the relevant project beneficiaries and identify their needs to successfully implement their business plans
- Develop training tools and materials and prepare and conduct technical capacity building of the relevant project beneficiaries and facilitators
- Provide assistance, if and when needed, during the implementation of the business plan.
- Participate in project teams meetings and discussions
- Undertake any other activity relevant to the specific expertise in relation to the project.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
- Advanced university degree in agriculture with any of the following specializations: crop production/protection, animal production/health, Fisheries/aquaculture, forestry, food and agro-processing or any related field
- Seven years of relevant experience in including experience in the specific domain of expertise requested by the project beneficiaries
- Working knowledge of English and of French or Arabic
