Background:

When catastrophe hits, International Medical Corps is often one of the first humanitarian aid organizations on the scene providing rapid and effective aid that saves lives, reduces suffering, and promotes self-reliance.

International Medical Corps: provides safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable and patient centered care; offers needs-based response according to the context and type of Sudden Onset Disaster and/or outbreak in the affected nation: adopts a human rights-based approach to their response; ensures they are accessible to all sections of the population affected by the SOD and/or outbreak particularly the vulnerable; and treats patients in a medically ethical manner consistent with the World Medical Association Medical Ethics Manual.

International Medical Corps is accountable to: patients and communities; host government, Ministry of Health; our organization and donors. International Medical Corps commits to a coordinated response under the national health emergency management authorities. International Medical Corps collaborates with the national health system, the cluster and the humanitarian community

Job Purpose:

This position will support International Medical Corps' emergency response to Beirut Blast.

The Case worker is responsible to identify GBV cases and conduct case management sessions

 

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Promote and introduce the International Medical Corps (IMC) integrated approach to GBV services to institutions, centers, PHCs and individuals.
  2. Provide GBV case management and psychosocial support to vulnerable persons, particularly survivors of gender-based violence at the primary health clinics, community centers and field levels. Case management services will include assessment of needs, development of an action plan for recovery, implementation of the action plan and ensuring appropriate follow up/revision and case closure when appropriate. The case management process should be implemented through the survivor-centered approach.
  3. Work closely with different IMC departments to properly refer beneficiaries as needed.
  4. Contribute to and regularly update service mapping of service providers within the area of intervention to ensure that the team is informed of all relevant and available services through identifying opportunities for coordination with different NGOs for future Cooperation.
  5. Organize focus group discussions on relevant information when needed.
  6. Conduct outreach and home visits and document it, in addition to handling urgent cases once needed and outside working hours.
  7. Receive referrals, take action and provide feedback of actions taken in a timely manner to manager and other agencies when necessary.
  8. Maintain accurate records, and beneficiaries’ files that are in line with GBVIMS standards, monitor the CM database, ad support the officer in case file audit procedure.
  9. Prepare and submit reports in timely manner directly to GBV-Officer.
  10. Attend IMC trainings when such trainings are planned and implemented in addition to meetings with Program manager and/or Officer once requested.

Reporting:

  • The weekly database;
  • The monthly intake forms, qualitative and quantitative reports;
  • Other reports requested by the IMC GBV Officer.

Experience : 

  • Previous experience working with GBV survivors, previous experience working in MHPSS is a plus.

Desirable Experience : 

  • Experience in working closely with community members throughout a program cycle

Competency :

  • Knowledge of, respect and empathy for the communities we are working with
  • Commitment to championing community and partner points of view
  • Good interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Very good listening and facilitation skills – capable of managing and facilitating group discussions with program participants, local officials, partners and all levels of staff

Desirable Competency :

  • Experience in or understanding of program accountability principles
