PROJECT OVERVIEW

ECODIT is implementing the USAID Lebanon Diverting Waste by Encouraging Reuse and Recycling (DAWERR) Activity, a five-year project that will establish sustainable and replicable integrated solid waste diversion and valorization solutions in different rural areas in Lebanon, leading to improved social and economic well-being for Lebanon’s population.  Working concomitantly with municipalities, local communities and the private sector, the Project will (1) develop sustainable composting value chains for organic waste, and strengthen existing recycling value chains (RVCs) for inert recyclable materials in select municipalities serving as pilots initially, and then support replication by other municipalities across Lebanon building on lessons learned from the pilots; and (2) implement integrated Solid Waste Management (SWM) solutions for unions or clusters of municipalities.  

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the overall management of the Local Development Lead (LDL), the Field Coordinator will:

  • Develop strong working relationships with the local authorities and stakeholders in the project’s areas and regions;
  • Maintain regular (at least weekly) contact with municipalities and communities participating in the implementation of SWM pilots, their replication, and the integrated SWM solutions, to assist in resolving issues and monitoring progress in the field;
  • Organize secure travel for project staff, USAID representatives and other stakeholders to project sites, in coordination with local authorities and municipalities; 
  • Participate in weekly meetings with the full project team;
  • Report to the LDL and other staff regularly to provide implementation updates and mitigate issues, including by authoring and submitting written brief weekly updates;
  • Maintain a detailed database of all field activities to include field records, weekly updates, event attendance sheets, photos, videos, etc.; and
  • Provide inputs for the preparation of quarterly and annual reports, including success stories, short videos, photographs, stakeholder statements, and beneficiary testimonials.  

 

The Field Coordinator will be expected to travel regularly and frequently throughout Lebanon to execute the above duties and responsibilities.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in sciences, humanities, or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in local development, including working closely and effectively with municipalities, communities, civil society and the private sector, in improving services;  
  • Demonstrated teamwork, communication and outreach skills;
  • Demonstrated listening, oral and writing skills in English and Arabic;
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to project sites; and
  • Duly registered car and valid Lebanese driver’s license.
