Expression of Interest for the Training of Trainers Distance Learning Developers / ProVte project

Context

Considering the current COVID-19 pandemic and the stumbling economic situation that are affecting Lebanon at several levels, all schools closed on the 2nd of March 2020 and could be even stay closed during the academic year 2020/21.

Against this background the EU-funded ProVTE Project, implemented by GIZ, intends to ensure that all students of the BT “Bâtiment et Travaux Publics“ whose learning has been interrupted, will receive the chance to stay engaged in learning and are receiving the necessary support to cope with the isolation and the new distance learning (DL) approach that has been imposed on them.

Up to now technical teachers are used to deliver the content of the Technical theoretical subjects (about 150 hours per semester per year) in classroom settings following an existing curriculum for the BT “Bâtiment et Travaux Publics“. In order to address the need for competent technical teachers, that are able to develop and facilitate technical theory subject classes in distance learning modality, ProVTE is looking for 20 competent and motivated TVET teachers to develop the same technical and theoretical subjects in DL modality. To assure the uniformity of the courses developed in DL, a platform for the development of the courses has been chosen to be systematically applied to all BT programs eventually.

 

Objectives

To assure a consistent level of quality of the content and the flow of the DL courses, a standard process for the development of the DL lessons has been defined. The teachers will get familiarized with this process and enabled to develop their own DL lessons in the frame of a 40h training of trainers (ToT), which is not remunerated, but free of charge and mandatory for the applicants.

The ToT courses will be conducted in a week between mid-August and mid-September 2020. The course will be done in distance learning modality (online). After the completion of the course, the teachers will be assigned to develop 1 DL lesson (50min) related to the technical theoretical courses listed below. His/her performance will be assessed and the most qualified teachers will subsequently have the possibility to be contracted by ProVTE to develop different technical theoretical courses (up to 30h of lessons per teacher) of the BT in “Bâtiment et Travaux Publics“ in DL modality, such as:

  • Building Materials and methods
  • Painting
  • Paving
  • Resistance of Materials
  • Sanitary equipment
  • Air conditioning equipment
  • Topography
  • Construction technique in large works
  • Public works
  • Sites visiting
  • Building code
 

 

Outputs/Results:

The outputs / results requested to the teachers are:

  • 100% attendance of ToT course] (40h) on developing DL lessons
  • 100% fulfilment of the assignments required during the course
  • Development of 1 lesson (50 minutes) of a technical theoretical subject delivered within 7 days from the ToT course following the standards presented during the ToT

 

Requirements for interested candidates

Motivation to spend 8h in front of a computer screen.

 

Qualifications and skills

  • LET or University degree at least at bachelor level in architecture, civil engineering or topography or alternatively LT with 4 additional years of related work experience
  • Fluency in Arabic language
  • Fluency in English language
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) or equivalent application
  • Proficient in internet (re-)search

General professional experience (minimum requirement one of the two)

  • At least 2 years of experience in teaching (on contractual basis) one of the technical theoretical subjects in the BT “Bâtiment et Travaux Publics“ as above listed or
  • Graduates after the 1/1/2018 in Architecture or Civil Engineering having passed exams in one of the technical theoretical subjects in the BT “Bâtiment et Travaux Publics“ as above listed

Specific professional experience

  • Proven and extensive experience in the development of training materials and documentation
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Ability to explain technical information in a concise manner
  • Experience in preparing assessment on technical theoretical subjects

 

Conditions

  • Time frame of the cooperation 10.08.-20.09.2020
  • Availability of a PC or laptop with Office applications and internet access
  • Selected participants to the ToT that will deliver all the outputs as stated in Art.3

  1. A cover letter, stating the motivation to attend the 40 hours of training in DL (in English)
  2. An updated CV (in Eng), indicating:
    1. For contractual teachers: the technical theoretical subjects taught, the academic year, the school, the name of the director of the school
    2. For fresh university graduates: the list of the subjects attended and passed at the university and the grade
