Theatre Director & Scriptwriter

Background

The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering- RDFL is a feminist, grassroots and membership-based organization working to advance gender equality through advocacy, networking and solidarity work in Lebanon. It was established in 1976. Our values are rooted in non-discriminatory, secular feminism, democracy, transparency and intersectionality. Our work focuses on creating an enabling environment where girls and women are protected and empowered to be agents of change.

The Lebanese Women Democratic Gathering - RDFL is a member of a consortium composed of Euromed Feminist Initiative, Care International in Lebanon, and Legal Action in Lebanon which is currently implementing the project “Strengthening access to protection, participation and services for women refugees, IDPs and host communities” in Lebanon. The objectives are to enhance security and resilience for Syrian women refugees and women from host communities through supporting and coordinating comprehensive and structured services and referral mechanisms, as well as to support national institutions in their work towards more gender-sensitive policy frameworks and legislation. The activities of the project are implemented in 4 regions of Lebanon: Beirut, Mount Lebanon, North Lebanon and Bekaa.

Context

The theatre director and scriptwriter will produce a script on the topic of child marriage tackling the status of Syrian and Lebanese women in Lebanon. This script shall be transformed into a play which RDFL will present in four main regions in Lebanon during April 2020.  The theatre director and scriptwriter shall submit a full proposal for the play including script context, play planning, and financial quotation of his/her consultancy fees.

Duties and Responsibilities

General duties and responsibilities:

• Working on script development schemes;
• Receiving feedback on the script and updating it;
• Holding auditions for productions, selecting actors/actresses, etc.;
• Managing time, performance, and space;
• Organizing rehearsals;
• Communicating and liaising with all parties involved, including actors/actresses, the creative team, the production team and producers;
• Attending preview performances and preparing detailed notes for the cast and the creative and production teams;
• Helping to publicize the production of the applicant;
• Execute the play successfully with committing to the specific timeline;
• Submit a narrative report when the whole job is done.
