Visibility And Political Strategies: A Discussion

This session aims to provide an informal space for discussing the relationship of (in)visible identification (as women, men, LGBT, queer) to the types of political action possible. As such, we aim to discuss how visibility functions politically in Beirut, and how does its gendered manifestation shape the ways in which we choose our political strategies and do politics.
To facilitate the discussion, we will touch upon themes such as “coming out”, as well as parts of the “identity politics” versus “queer politics” debate. We’ll do so through reflecting upon the politics of local civil society groups, our own experiences, and/or recent events. This discussion simply aims to provide space for reflection, for further sketching out of the various tools available for political organizing, and for drawing out the points of meeting between various types of politics in Beirut.
