MAGNA (Medical and Global Nutrition Aid) is providing medical care for children and their families in times of humanitarian crises, conflicts, epidemics, famines and natural disasters. MAGNA creates medical humanitarian projects aimed at saving lives and alleviating suffering to those who are at risk. MAGNA’s humanitarian and development programs have been currently implemented on three continents - Africa, Asia, America, in twelve countries (Cambodia, Kenya, DR Congo, South Sudan, Haiti, Nicaragua, Vietnam, Nepal, Philippines, Myanmar, Lebanon and Syria), where in 26 projects and in over 82 health facilities in the world, offers medical, nutritional and psychosocial assistance to people in need. Since February 2016 MAGNA provides emergency medical respond to Syrian crisis in Lebanon.

 
MAGNA is looking for a Nurse for project of medical mobile primary health care services for Syrian refugees living predominantly in Informal Tented Settlements in Akkar District. The geographical outreach for medical mobile clinic in Akkar is situated precisely within the catchment area of partnering health facilities and it is covering selected Informal Tented Settlements (ITS). All project activities are focusing on improving the access, provision and quality of health care services for Syrian refugees.
 

POSITION OVERVIEW
 
The Nurse is responsible for providing quality nursing care to patient in the MAGNA project assigned under the responsibility of the Medical Doctor. He/she will be directly responsible to provide basic medical care and the other health and social care activities in aid of the population of the informal tented settlements.
 
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION
 
1.  Preparation:
Participate to the loading and unloading of the vehicles and to the setting up of the medical clinics.
Contribute to the effort to ensure that needed items for clinic activities are ready before leaving the base.
Prepare and update on a regular basis the lists of drugs, material, furniture and stationeries needed for the clinic. Update all the forms and documents needed for the mobile clinics (in collaboration with the Medical Supervisor).
 
2. Medical activities: 
Follow the basic medical rules of hygiene and ensure the rest of the staff does it.
Take the weight, temperature, blood pressure and pulse. If needed: pregnancy, urine and blood glucose tests.
Perform injections; change a wound dressing and any other needed nursing activity.
Explain the treatment to the patient and give individual health education related to the patient’s disease.
 
3. Organization and data collection: 
Support in the triage activities
Fill in the data required for data analysis: diagnosis, morbidity data, epidemical signs, etc.
Check the immunization, tuberculosis and hepatitis status
Collect, analyze and send the weekly data and reports in coordination with Medical Supervisor
 
4. Medication management:
Distribute drugs according to the medical prescription
Ask the medical consultants to complete their prescription in case of incomplete information (dosage, duration, etc.)
Indicate the dosage of the drugs on the drug dispensing bag
Explain to the patient how to take his treatment and explain the side effects
Fill in the daily consumption book for each item
Perform monthly inventory of the mobile clinic drugs
 
5. To perform health education sessions (in collaboration with the SW).
Prepare different tools for health education sessions
Diffuse main messages on health on certain topics (e.g. hygiene, safe water, nutrition, immunization, postnatal and antenatal care, family planning, and diarrhea) in the waiting area
Promotion of the use of ORS during all the diarrheic episodes (preparation, preserving, use) 
  
6. Nutritional screening
Take the weight, height or MUAC of all the children between 6 and 59 months
Fill in properly the screening nutritional form
Point out to the medical doctors all the malnourished children
Follow the malnourished children admitted in the program and participate in active search to minimize defaulters
 
REQUIREMENTS
BA in Nursing or any medical related field- License to work as nurse is required.
Experience 3-5 years
Planning capabilities.
Organizational skills.
Management skills.
Team Player.
Calm, stress management, patient, ability to listen.
