DAI was founded in 1970 by three graduates of Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government intent on providing a more dynamic and effective brand of development assistance. This entrepreneurial approach would look beyond traditional philanthropy to embrace the virtues of the private sector, and build a company that delivers social and economic development on a competitive, cost-effective, best-value basis—a social enterprise that is self-sustaining because it is profitable. Employee-owned DAI is now a global development company with a record of delivering results in 160 countries. But it remains today what it was as a start-up: innovative, alert, self-critical, and forward-looking—and driven by a powerful sense of corporate purposeOur mission remains essentially unchanged from the days of the founders.

DAI  is currently implementing two projects in Lebanon under USAID funding:

Lebanon—Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) Activity

The Trade and Investment Facilitation (TIF) Activity is a three-year project designed to enhance economic opportunities by facilitating trade and investment in targeted business sectors. TIF works to boost the exports of Lebanese goods and services, facilitate investment in Lebanese enterprises and improve the business and investment enabling environment in Lebanon.

 And

Lebanon—Water Sanitation and Conservation (WSC)

The Water Sanitation and Conservation (WSC) Project’s purpose is the enhanced conservation and protection of Lebanon’s water resources through achieving three objectives: 1) Expanding the capacity of wastewater and sanitation management; 2) Increasing the efficiency of public water utilities to manage water resources; and 3) Enhancing citizens’ water stewardship.

The availability of usable water resources in Lebanon—a strategic priority country to the U.S. Government’s Global Water Strategy—is at risk, jeopardizing the well-being of citizens and the social compact between the Government of Lebanon.
