Media & Advocacy Manager

Terms of Reference

 

Position: Media & Advocacy Manager

Location: Beirut

ABAAD PURPOSE:

ABAAD aims at achieving gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD has a proven record in working in addressing GBV in emergency settings, aiming at reducing the risks of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through women, boys and girls empowerment and improving the quality of multi-sectorial assistance for women and girls survivors or at risk of GBV among the host and Syrian refugee population.

 Principal Duties & Responsibilities 

  1. In collaboration with the management and programs departments, develop, manage and implement strategic internal and external advocacy and media plans and activities that support ABBAD’s mission and goals.
  2. Lead on the development and delivery of ABAAD media and advocacy across the country
  3. Providing technical advice and specialist guidance on appropriate media and advocacy and communications solutions.
  4. Develop relations and partnerships with local, regional and international organizations and agencies.
  5. Plays active role in media, lobby, and advocacy on issues related to programmes through personal contacts and co-ordination of allies.
  6. Help in the development and implementation of a robust brand identity for ABAAD. 
  7. Promote ABAAD’s gender-related messaging and advocacy through the full range of available media channels.
  8. Deliver successful campaigning across the country to challenge existing norms and behaviors around gender and women’s rights
  9. Represent ABAAD at specific meetings and events, including representation in coordination meetings and external relationships, including representation to influential external contacts
  10. Work closely with the team member (digital engagement officer) to develop visibility materials.
  11. Work with Programme Quality Coordinator on monitoring and evaluating regional gender justice programme media and advocacy to measure the impact and value of all media campaigns and activities and provide adequate recommendations.
  12. Manage any other tasks requested by ABAAD’s director.

  Education Requirements

-       University Degree (preferably Master’s degree) in Marketing, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, or a relevant field.

-       Relevant courses in Media and advocacy, campaigning, social marketing, branding, fundraising, public relations, project management, etc. 

 Skills required

  1. Expert knowledge of relevant communications environment and programme context.
  2. Requires the ability to analyze and communicate complex information to a wide audience.
  3. Decision-making requires significant levels of judgment based on technical experience
  4. Strong experience of media, advocacy and campaigning work especially for Gender and women’s rights.
  5. Ability to think strategically and experience of developing and delivering campaign strategy.
  6. Ability to motivate others by providing inspiration and campaign leadership.
  7. Strong project management skills, particularly with regard to working with others to get things done.
  8. Experience of working effectively in complex matrix management situations.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence and negotiate both internally and externally.
  10. Good listening, coaching and training skills and a commitment to further personal development in these areas.
  11. Fluency in English and Arabic
