Job Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

 

To research and produce communications materials about World VisionLebanonprogrammes mainly the WV response to the Syrian refugees and provide these to the Communications Manager, the Regional Communications Team and the World Vision partnership. Assist in implementing World VisionLebanon’s visibility, branding, and child protection and communications policies.

 MAJOR TASKS:

 

I.    Resource Production and Publication

  • In response to local, regional, support office or global centre requests, take, caption, upload and, as appropriate, publish, photos about successes and needs in World Vision projects
  • In response to local, regional, support office and/or global centre requests, research, film  (rushes and editing) and, as appropriate, publish, video/stories about successes and needs in World Vision projects
  • In response to local, regional, support office and/or global centre requests, research, write and, as appropriate, publish, stories about successes and needs in World Vision projects
  • Ensure these materials are published to the World Vision Lebanon Web site as appropriate and other WV portals.
  • Review local and regional Web site to ensure information such as funding opportunities, stories and other items are accurate and up-to-date. Remove outdated items and post new items.
  • Support production of annual review and other key World Vision documents.
  • Ensure all written, photographic, video, web and other resources produced are done so in alignment with World Vision child protection standards.
  • Support in WV’s compliance with global branding and corporate identity.

 

II.   Media Relations

  • Write and disseminate press releases to local, regional and/or international media as appropriate. Support regional and support office media relations initiatives.
  • Monitor news media coverage of World VisionLebanonand NGO and humanitarian issues inLebanon.
  • Manage distribution lists key media contacts.
  • Support translation of key documents, including press releases and speeches, to provide information to the media.
  • Ensure journalists are informed of and sign off on the appropriate child protection protocol.

 

III.  Emergency Communications

  • Ensure familiarity with equipment needed to support an emergency response.
  • Ensure familiarity with software, protocols and web addresses needed to support an emergency response.
  • Ensure user names or passwords needed to support an emergency response are available.

 

 

 

EDUCATION / SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

            Education

 Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual, journalism, communications, graphics

 

Knowledge and Skills

 

  • Familiarity with web-based portals and content-management systems, FTP clients and databases.
  • Understanding of World Vision and other NGO standards
  • Photography and/or videography skills
  • Strong ability to write, edit, and speak English and Arabic languages
  • Strong computer literacy, including ability to work with Microsoft Office and web-based software,
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding of social and political environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, with team members as well as alone.
  • Ability to cope with working in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Ability to exhibit exemplary lifestyle as interpreted in specific local cultural context.
  • Familiarity with use of social media for communications purposes

  

Experience

 

  • Two years experience working in journalism, photography or media production and communications or a related field.
  • Previous experience writing, editing and/or publishing articles and taking photos.

 

Work Environment

 

  • Position requires in-country travel for up to 50 per cent of working hours.
  • Position requires availability and willingness to work outside regular office hours occasionally.
  • Position requires willingness and ability to continue to function during a crisis situation, including during a World Vision response to a manmade or natural disaster. Also requires willingness to undergo World Vision and external training on how to respond to such emergencies, including first aid training.
