Job Description

Intro: TDH- IT is implementing an EU- funded (‘Madad Fund’) education project, ‘Back to the Future’ in consortium with AVSI (lead agency) and War Child Holland. The consortium will support formal and non-formal activities for vulnerable preschool and school aged boys and girls (over 3 years old) in Lebanon and Jordan. Activities include; school rehabilitation, remedial classes, foreign language classes, homework support and recreational activities.


Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH- IT) is recruiting an Outreach Worker to work for the consortium in Keyfoun, Aley District to support the implementation of the ‘Back to the Future’ project, aimed at building the resilience of Syrian Refugees and affected host populations through educational and PSS activities.


Job Purpose:

With an anticipated start date of 10th July 2017, TDH IT is seeking an Outreach Worker for Aley District to act as the first representative of the consortium and the project among the beneficiaries, their families and local community. He/she will closely work with local communities, NGOs, local authorities and other community groups to ensure that and the project activities have widespread acceptance. He/she will lead all outreach activities for beneficiaries (sensitization campaigns, community information events, project visibility) and will lead on beneficiary assessment, identification and registration.


Key Responsibilities

  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with local communities, NGOs, local authorities and other community groups.
  • Liaise with local community stakeholders to build the consortium’s acceptance, to facilitate smooth project implementation.
  • Inform the wider community about the project as well as relevant project staff to ensure programmatic synergies.
  • Identify potential beneficiaries and inform their families about the consortium activities.
  • Conduct regular monitoring (data entry of beneficiary information and their progress) and generate monitoring reports on the qualitative and quantitative progress of the project.
  • Carry out field assessments to identify vulnerable communities, potential beneficiaries, areas for community-based activities etc.
  • Support local project visibility to raise awareness of activities and promote the success of activities being carried out in the local community.
  • Organize community meetings according to the principles of inclusion and transparency.
  • Participate in project monitoring and evaluation by supporting the M & E officer to develop field based M & E tools and reporting systems; attend training on the use of M & E tools and processes.
  • Contribute to weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting on project activity progress and project impact.
  • Ensure that all required documentation from field- work is prepared professionally and is properly filed.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive filing system for mobilization activities including project documents, monitoring notes and photos.
  • Support the Project Communications Officer to collect human-interest stories/beneficiary interviews/case studies, including photographs.
  • Other assigned tasks, as necessary. 

Experience required:


High School Diploma. Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, social work, social sciences or related field preferred. 


Experience and competencies:




  • At least 2 years experience working in child- centred programming in Mount Lebanon region.
  • At least 1 years experience working in a national or international NGO in Mount Lebanon region.
  • Experience of supporting Education projects (emergency or development context) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of refugee issues in the current Lebanese context.
  • Excellent communications skills, with good understanding of relevant cross-cultural issues and ability to work with refugee and host community populations.
  • Written and oral English communication skills preferred.
  • Positive, respectful attitude and collaborative approach to problem solving.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail; ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently as well as cooperatively with team members.
  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the current political, economic, cultural and historical context of Mount Lebanon region.
  • Experience in supporting psychosocial support (PSS) activities preferred.
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relations with people of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various partners.
  • Dynamic leader with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.

Period: Indicative start date is 10th July 2017. Contract is until 31st December 2017 (renewable) with a 3 - month probation period.
Salary: Based on experience and TDH Salary Scale
