Job Description

Intro: TDH- IT is implementing an EU- funded (‘Madad Fund’) education project, ‘Back to the Future’ in consortium with AVSI (lead agency) and War Child Holland. The consortium will support formal and non-formal activities for vulnerable preschool and school aged boys and girls (over 3 years old) in Lebanon and Jordan. Activities include; school rehabilitation, remedial classes, foreign language classes, homework support and PSS activities.


Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH- IT) is recruiting a Centre Coordinator to work for the consortium in Aley District to support the implementation of the ‘Back to the Future’ project, aimed at building the resilience of Syrian Refugees and affected host populations through educational and PSS activities.


Job Purpose:

With an anticipated start date of July 10th 2017, TDH IT is seeking a Centre Coordinator for Keyfoun Municipality, Aley District to manage the planning, set- up and delivery of all educational and PSS activities, conducted in the local community center. The coordinator will be responsible for supervising a team of; 1 x Outreach Worker, 2 x Animators, 3- 5 teachers, 2 – 3 drivers, and volunteers to implement Early Childhood Education (ECE), Basic Literacy and Numeracy (BLN), Foreign Language and Homework Support courses as well as recreational sessions for children.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the center staffs’ (teacher, animators, outreach worker and volunteers) work.
  • Work with the Education Field Coordinator and Education Officer to design a timetable of activities in the center, as well as develop a plan for monitoring the quality and impact of those activities.
  • Work with the Education Field Coordinator to identify, train and support drivers who are providing a daily transportation service for children accessing the center.
  • Coordinate with outreach workers and volunteers to identify vulnerable children in the district and produce materials/host events to promote the work of the center, to the local community.
  • Support the Education Field Officers to train center workers on relevant topics (i.e. training teachers and animators on educational curriculum, training all staff on child protection, training drivers on child protection and health and safety). The center coordinator should regularly identify trainings needed by the center staff and inform the Education Coordinator of these needs.
  • Collect the logistic needs of the centers and act accordingly to ensure the center is fully equipped and meets the needs of the program (make procurement requests, check stock, support the delivery of goods to the center etc.)
  • Regularly coordinate with local suppliers and providers to obtain quotes for center materials and help coordinate the daily provision of snacks for children.
  • Ensure all HR and administrative procedures are in order relating to the center staff (check the contracts for all personnel working in centers, timesheets, IDs, etc…).
  • Organize regular meetings with the center staff in order to ensure the correct implementation of the program according to the working plan. Work together with the staff to regularly review and update the work plan, when needed.
  • Provide the Education Field Coordinator and Program Manager with regular activity and monitoring reports (in English).
  • Be responsible for collecting all beneficiary data (child registration forms, child attendance forms, child progress forms etc.) and sharing it with the TDH IT Data Manager on a monthly basis.
  • Participate in project staff training with other TDH IT staff.
  • Act as a focal point within the local community, and meet with other national and intentional INGO staff to coordinate on educational activities in the region.


Experience required:


High School Diploma. Bachelor’s degree in education, sociology, social work, social sciences or related field preferred. 


Experience and competencies:




  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience supporting local communities with education or PSS activities.
  • Previous experience in supervising a team of staff to deliver community based activities (i.e. volunteers, field workers, social worker etc.).
  • Experience of designing activity plans and scheduling activities for vulnerable community members.
  • Previous experience working for an NGO or INGO
  • Experience of working with Syrian communities; preference for working with children/young persons
  • Experience of coordinating with local stakeholders to implement community based activities i.e. municipality staff/leaders, school principles, local NGOs, parents groups etc.
  • Demonstrated training design and delivery experience required.
  • Strong personnel leadership skills, particularly mentoring skills.
  • Experience of working with a diverse team.
  • Strong writing and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to communicate in Arabic, fluency in English required.
  • Computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook).

Period: Indicative start date is 10th July 2017. Contract is until 31st December 2017 (renewable) with a 3 - month probation period.
Salary: Based on experience and TDH Salary Scale
