Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified candidate who would like to volunteer with DRC as Research Assistant Interviewer.

About the job 

This is a collaborative research project directed by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC). 
The overall objective of the Cities Youth Migrant Project is to conduct research on migration issues and migrant protection. This project outcomes should lead to better information for agencies, institutions and forums in Europe to improve the management of protection and assistance response to people in mixed migration flows from East Africa to Europe. The objectives are to inform policy, debate, and programmatic response while increasing understanding of conditions and protection deficits. 
Expected Results 
• Successful completion of training modules as outlined by the Project Coordinator and Field Team Leader. 
• Successful completion & upload of 2 to 4 migrant interviews each workday, though more submissions will be encouraged. When possible, DRC or a partner may be able to provide wifi services for successful upload.  
• Daily communication with Team Leader where Interviewer will be given feedback, which then needs to be applied. More frequent communication may be requested depending on need and monitor availability. 
• Weekly communication directly with Project Coordinator (and translator if necessary) to discuss progress, difficulties, and level of support provided by Team Leader.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Successful application of skills learned or developed in training 

• Immediately apply feedback received from Team Leader. 
• Complete at least 10 to 20 migrant interviews per week, using the selection protocol and under direction of Team Leader.  
• Weekly Skype, WhatsApp, or voice chats with Team Leader, where available. When voice communication is not available, instant messenger (Skype IM, WhatsApp, GChat, etc. – mode is flexible) will be necessary.  
• Read emails daily for further instructions from the Team Leader or DRC Staff. 
• Any other tasks as assigned in support of the Interview process and data collection or management of other Field Staff
About you 
To be successful in this role we expect you to have a Completed high school diploma Moreover, we also expect the following:


• Demonstrated interest in humanitarian issues or migration 
• Excellent interpersonal skills: calming manner, sociable, can influence people and establish a rapport quickly 
• Written and verbal Fluency in one of Arabic 
• High level of trustworthiness and dependability 
• Understanding of smartphone applications, including android-based smart phone settings and applications


• Previous experience in journalism, psychosocial support, data collection or social science research 
• Additional spoken and/or written proficiency in English and French

We offer

Contract length: Interviewers will be paid for training of 1 week and 1 week of field activities. Depending on continued success of Interviewers at meeting the productivity requirements and budgetary constraints, contracts may be extended for an additional 2 weeks up to a maximum of 6 weeks.
