Case Worker

Job Purpose:
Supports migrant domestic workers, migrant workers, and refugees facing labor abuse, exploitation, violence, medical and mental health needs, legal status issues, asylum claims, and deportations, through a collaborative case management and advocacy approach.
Work Schedule:
40 hours per week and some Sundays and weekday evenings (until 7 pm) required.
Must be flexible with schedule, for case visits and meetings.
Transportation costs to sites outside ARM Hamra office and MCC Achrafieh, if needed, will be covered.
Salary Range:
$1000-1350
Starting Date:
Early October 2019
The jobholder responsibilities in this area include but are not limited to the following:
Intakes and case management:
- Conduct in-person and phone case intakes with migrant workers, domestic workers, asylum seekers and refugees to assess their situation and problems, and collaboratively determine what services are required to meet their needs. (Medical, mental health, labor abuse, violence, deportation, detention, etc.)
- Provide people reporting with access to the necessary information, resources, and redress for violations, through direct action and referrals to other NGOs, embassies, consulates, hospitals, and government bodies.
- Provide counseling and information in “open hours” at MCC for people reporting cases.
- Establish course of action by exploring options; set goals with concerned individuals.
- Act as guide and advocate when needed, to support migrant workers, domestic workers, asylum seekers and refugees access services they are often denied.
- Refer cases and communicate with other organizations that provide support services for migrant workers and migrant domestic workers, collaborating with them on specific cases, including NGOs, embassies, and consulates.
- Record and document case information.
- Conduct some case visits to government ministries, hospitals, other NGOs, etc.
- Depending on qualifications/interest, support UNHCR asylum seekers with case appeals and file requests.
- Depending on the candidate's background, the role may take a focus on counseling, medical/mental health support, and/or legal support.
Coordinate mental health and medical partnerships:
- Manage daily operations of medical and mental health partnerships, which include doctor’s visits to MCC Achrafieh, and referrals to external organizations
- Meet with potential and continued partners to advocate for expanded services
Report to Case Manager and work closely with MCC members, staff, volunteers.

- Regular contact with people with cases
- Regular contact with partners (NGO, embassy, etc.)
- Occasional contact with the lawyer
Framework, Boundaries, and Decision Making Authority:
The jobholder works independently and collaboratively with the rest of the cases team, and has authority to make informed decisions on possible solutions and take necessary actions, in consultation with the cases team and the Case Manager.
Desired Qualifications:
- Either University Degree in social sciences, social work, law, psychology or a related field and/or experience in case management work, legal, or mental health or medical fields
- Knowledge and understanding of NGOs, nonprofit organizations and human rights issues.
- Knowledge of and experience with case management work, social work, counseling, legal issues, mental health, and/or trauma-informed practice.
- Some knowledge and understanding of migration issues and the situation of migrant workers in Lebanon.
- Working knowledge of UNHCR processes and refugee status determination is a plus, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to sensitively conduct case interviews with a wide range of people and work collaboratively with both migrant domestic workers / migrant workers and referral organizations.
- Tenacity in advocating for access to information, justice, and services for cases and researching resources for cases.
- Interest in gender, race, and socioeconomic justice
- Experience required: 3-5 years
- Excellent command of Arabic (spoken-read-written) & English (spoken-read-written). French (spoken), Amharic (spoken), or other languages is a plus.
- Good Microsoft Office Skills
- Very good organizational and time management skills, proactive
- Ability to work on afternoons/evenings and Sundays on a regular basis.
- Willingness to commit for a one year period.
