WHAT IS MSF ?
Médecins Sans Frontières/أطباء بلا حدود بلا أطباء (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people in 70 countries who are affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation and our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of neutrality and impartiality.
We offer basic healthcare, perform surgery, fight epidemics, rehabilitate and run hospitals and clinics, carry out vaccination campaigns, operate nutrition centers, and provide mental healthcare. Our activities include the treatment of injuries and disease, maternal care and the provision of humanitarian aid. Where necessary, we set up sanitation systems, supply safe drinking water, and distribute relief to assist survival.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Being responsible for looking after the welfare of the infant/child, according to MSF hygiene standards and security rules, strictly observing the daily regimen specified by parents in written or oral instructions
DETAILED ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Taking care of the infant/child during the day and carrying out tasks specified by the parents, following at all times all hygiene standards and security rules. When requested, preparing food and planning their daily activities
- Taking all possible measures to prevent accidents in home/external activity locations. Immediately informing the parents in case of accidents (injuries, falling, intoxication, etc.) and immediately providing the first aid and calling the medical doctor if required. Checking the health of the child (fever, insect bites, injuries, etc.) when called for
- Practicing self-education, learning child development methods and practicing developing games with infants/children based on their age.
- Looking after the cleanliness of the infant/child, including clothes and shoes as well the cleanliness of the room, domestic appliances, toys and other items surrounding the infant/child. When required, ironing child/children’s clothes
- Dressing the infant/child appropriately and taking care of the toilet needs of the child. When applicable, changing diapers regularly and giving a bath during the day and when requested, during the evening
- Using the home and kitchen appliances accurately and carefully to prepare proper meals for the infant/child
Note: The infant/child should never be left alone including while in the bath. When staying at home while parents are out, child minder should not open the door to unauthorized people
ADDITIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Meal time: Preparing the meals according to meal times (Breakfast, lunch), setting the table, helping the children eat, clean up after meals (table, dishes etc)
- Snack time: preparing morning snack (fruit) and afternoon snack (fruit and crackers or fruit and cookies or fruit and slice of cake) – no other snacking during the day
- Nap time: Putting 3 year old to sleep and reading stories to eldest in order to give her some “down time”
- Hygiene: Ensuring that children wash hands immediately when returning home and that they wash their hands and mouth immediately after finishing their meal/snack. Ensuring their overall hygiene and the hygiene of their environment as needed (clean up of children if pipi accident etc and floor etc.)
- Tidyness: Encouraging that children pick up their toys when play time is done (before we take out another game we put away the first one). Maintaining household tidy.
- Promoting positive behavior in children throughout the day: please, thank you, taking turns, saying sorry, cooperating, helping each other
- Grocery shopping as needed for household
- Cooking meals: preparing balanced dishes for the household, daily salads and healthy snacks. No junk food or sweets allowed (home baked goods for afternoon snack are allowed J ).
- Taking children to activities when relevant (gym class, play dates etc.)
- Ensuring the children have a healthy routine when school is closed in order to keep them stimulated, avoid boredom – including essential physical activity
- Be proactive in offering children diversified and creative activities which encourage their expression
- Promote their autonomy: encourage them to try on their own and ask for help when needed, offer them choices, give them responsibilities
REQUIREMENTS
Education: Early childhood education is an asset
Experience: Minimum 2 years experience in working with children in child care facilities or in families with children under 5 and multiple children.
Languages: Fluency in English or French or Spanish
Soft Skills: Be affectionate, caring, compassionate and truly love children, Be creative and fun, Enjoy cooking, being able to swim is an asset
